Meet us with our blue Free Tour Flag at the bottom of the Castle hill, in Buda, on Batthyány square near the metro station and let’s walk up to the top to see the treasure box of the Buda Castle district, a different city inside of the Hungarian capital!

First we stop at Batthyányi square in front of the St. Anna church. Here we learn about the 1st district, the royal neighborhood of Budapest – it is the Watertown. It is only 40 meters from our meeting point.

From there we begin our 7 minute climb up to the Castle (2×40 steps) to get to the gem of the castle:  the Fisherman’s Bastion.

Then we start to discover the area, starting with the Matthias Church. 

We continue our journey to the oldest residential street of the town, the Jewish District of Buda with the oldest active synagogue of Hungary. 

We talk about the many sieges of the castle at the main entrance of it, at the so called Vienna Gate, and we check out the National Archive as well. 

After that we visit the medieval ruins of the Maria Magdolna church and enjoy the view of the Buda Hills alongside the Tóth Árpád promenade. 

We leave the promenade to highlight one of the oldest confectionery of the city, the Ruszwurm.

Then we reach the real royal part of the castle, where we can see where the recent and past leaders of Hungary are working, like the “Hungarian White House” or the Carmelite Monastery.

Finally we finish the tour at the Royal Palace, in front of the National Gallery, we  help you with directions back to the meeting point or to wherever you would like to go after the Free Buda Castle Tour!
