You can see this bronze mythical eagle-like totemic bird statue if you visit our Free Buda Castle Tour. It is located very close to the Royal Palace.
Look for a pedestal on the east side of the Habsburg steps and Habsburg Gate. The turul bird is the main figure of one of the oldest Hungarian folktales. According to the legend, it impregnated the grandmother of Árpád, the chieftain of the Magyar tribes. Árpád led the Hungarians into the Carpathian Basin around 896AD.
The bird dropped the sword in what is now known as Budapest to indicate the Hungarian homeland.
The view overlooking the Danube and the Pest side of the city is spectacular from here.
