The Hungarian Parliament building is a must-see when you visit Budapest. We are finishing both Free Budapest Tour and Free Communism Tour just outside the building. This has been a World Heritage Site since 2011 together with the Danube river banks, Buda Castle, and Andrassy Avenue. The Parliament is home to Hungary’s legislative body and the 1000-year-old Holy Crown. It is still a functioning one, so it is serving as the workplace of 199 MPs.
The building was built between 1985 and 1902 in an eclectic style combining baroque, gothic, and neoclassicism. The walls, ceilings, and structures are rich and lavish in colors and designs. 50 kilograms of 22-carat gold were used for the interior decorations. The only way to go inside the building is 45 min. long guided tour that has multiple languages every day. The Hungarian Parliament building is grand and beautiful. It is worth many pictures taken from many angles and distances.
